Reshaping the Future: Kosovo Women on the Front Line of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity (MATRA)
This project was a significant initiative implemented in partnership with Women in Tech Kosovo and supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands. The Matra project aims to empower women and young girls in Kosovo by enhancing their digital skills in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI). Beyond promoting gender equality, the project also addresses broader societal challenges associated with the unregulated use of artificial intelligence.
The Matra project included a wide range of strategically designed activities to ensure long-term impact. From carefully crafted awareness campaigns to intensive practical training sessions, this comprehensive approach aimed at equipping participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Throughout the project:
- 50 girls aged 14–18 from high schools across five municipalities—Lipjan, Gjilan, Prishtina, Prizren, and Gjakova—received specialized training on cyber threats and gender-based cybersecurity.
- 30 women aged 18–30 were trained to effectively utilize Artificial Intelligence, empowering them to actively shape the digital future.
- 3 participating girls had the opportunity to attend the Women in Tech Global Summit in Paris, an experience that expanded their horizons and professional networks.
Additionally, as part of this project, a report was published that not only reflects on the challenges and opportunities women face in AI and cybersecurity but also provides a roadmap for creating a more inclusive and secure digital environment. At the core of this initiative was amplifying the voices and contributions of women and young girls from Kosovo in the fields of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, thus creating a more inclusive and equitable space in technology.
